A <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=27814714\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=27814714\">software upgrade to use both AOA sensors was sold as an optional extra<\/a>. Result: two planes crashed, killing 346 people. The damages and the subsequent grounding of the whole 373 Max fleet cost Boeing a few billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2023<\/strong>: Microsoft sold access to advanced logs in their MS-365 service as an add-on, premium product. Luckily, someone did buy it, and used the data provided to detect a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiz.io\/blog\/storm-0558-compromised-microsoft-key-enables-authentication-of-countless-micr\">significant intrusion in the whole Azure infrastructure<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For good or bad, we do not treat security as seriously as safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> I think this will change for critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft should think hard what that would mean.
