{"id":155,"date":"2009-11-09T16:16:08","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T15:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lendl.priv.at\/blog\/?p=155"},"modified":"2026-01-26T12:15:59","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T11:15:59","slug":"voip-interconnection-news-vipr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lendl.priv.at\/blog\/2009\/11\/09\/voip-interconnection-news-vipr\/","title":{"rendered":"VoIP Interconnection news: ViPR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The IETF Meeting started today in Hiroshima (without me), the speermint session is tomorrow at an ungodly hour with respect to CET, but the real news is somewhere else:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.zdnet.com\/BTL\/?p=27008\">JD Rosenberg left Cisco and joins Skype.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>and <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/mail-archive\/web\/dispatch\/current\/msg00901.html\">Jonathan and Cullen published a new VoIP interconnection idea.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their analysis is similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/tools.ietf.org\/html\/draft-lendl-speermint-background-02\">mine<\/a>, but their solution starts with a different set of requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Their main idea is not to build something which is capable of obsoleting the PSTN, but build something which leverages the strength of the PSTN to enable direct SIP peerings.<\/p>\n<p>Definitely worth a read.
